How I Choose My Books Tag!

Zoe: Welcome back everyone to Twintales, sorry its been so long. Annike and I thought we would come back and do a tag we were nominated for a little while ago (maybe a long while ago) so sorry about the lateness of this tag but a huge shoutout to Icebreaker for the nomination go and show her some love and follow her amazing blog. Here we go:

Find a book on your shelves or e-reader with a blue cover. What made you want to pick up this book?

A: I have The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli on my shelf with a blue cover. I have to say the reason I asked for this book and eventually got it was because it was such a popular book and had so much hype at the time! I kind of don’t remember what happens anymore… but I’m pretty sure I liked it.

Z: A blue book on my book shelf is the King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard. The reason I picked this book up is because I loved the previous 2 books and was really excited to see where the story was going to go.

Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did. Why did you read it in the first place?

A: Definitely Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta which I read a couple years ago and reread last year. I only really picked it up because it is set in my suburb and was a local author – but I ended up loving it so much!

Z: I would definitely go with Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. Annike kept telling me to read it but I thought it looked bad. She kept persuading me until I finally gave up and decided to read it. I didn’t think I would like it but ended up loving so I am thankful to her now:)

Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick up a book at random. How did you discover this book?

A: When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon. I 100% discovered this book on WordPress after reading like a million posts on it. Again, this book was all the rage a little while ago so I figured I needed to give it a go.

Z: Finding Cassie Crazy by Jaclyn Moriarty. I brought this book from the library when I was in like year 5 and read the whole thing on music camp. I picked this one because I thought it looked really interesting and I really loved it when I read it.

Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?

A: Technically this isn’t specific, but my brother always used to recommend Matthew Reilly books to me and last year I listened to his book The Tournament and absolutely adored it. I had no idea I would like ti that much but it was so interesting and definitely memorable.

Z: Annike has recommended me so many books but two books that were recommend by a friend at school were Thanks for the Trouble by Tommy Wallach and These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner. I thought they were both really good recommendations and good summer reads.

Pick a book that you discovered through YouTube / book blogs. Did it live up to the hype?

A: Umm I have already listed 2 books that I’ve found through WordPress but I think another one from last year was Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner. I had never heard of Jeff Zentner and his other book so Goodbye Days definitely popped up on my WordPress reader, and let me say – it is a beautiful read!

Z: I heard a lot about The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas through book blogs. I was constantly seeing raving reviews on this book and decided to finally pick it up. I was very happy to find out that it did live up the hype and I loved it.

Find a book on your shelves or e-reader with a one-word title. What drew you to this book?

A: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell!!! AHHH I love this book still even though I got it like 5 years ago. I think what initially drew me to it was the fact that it involved twins but I’ve read it like every year since haha.

Z: Everless by Sara Holland. I was drawn to this book due to the intriguing premise. It looked so amazing and unique, similar to red queen and so full of mystery. I thought it was really good but maybe not up to my exceedingly high expectations.

What book did you discover through a film / TV adaptation?

A: Definitely The 100 by Kass Morgan. The books are very different to the TV series so even though I read the book series second, they didn’t overlap a whole awful lot. Despite that I really like both the original book and the adapted TV show.

Z: Alike Icebreaker I would have to go with The Martian by Andy Weir. I watched the movie back in 2015 and finally read the book a few weeks ago and thought they were both brilliant. It was so original and because I loved the movie I was so happy that I also loved the book and it lived up to the hype.

Think of your all-time favourite book/s. When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place?

A: This is so hard! To name a few – An Ember in the Ashes, The Unexpected Everything, The 5th Wave, A Torch Against the Night, How I Lost You and probably a bunch that I have forgotten. They are really a mix I think. I found AEITA, TUE and ATATN on Goodreads and WordPress and the others I picked up randomly and just loved them 🙂

Z: I don’t even think I can pick a favourite book because there are so many amazing books out there which are all so different. I think I generally pick out books that I love due to great ratings and reviews. I love unique books which are both powerful, inspiring and beautifully written.

Annike’s Favourite 5 Books of 2017!

Annike: Hey guys, so similarly to last year, Zoe and I are going to do 2 separate posts that’ll go up together for our favourite books of the year. So these are our last blog posts of 2017 – which is crazy. This year I read 94 books in total. 22 of which were audiobooks (!) and the rest which I read in hard cover. This was actually the first year I started listening to books and they were great considering I have so little time to properly read. And surprisingly I only had 6 books that I have 5 stars, so either I’m getting a bit stingy or my reading year wasn’t as good as it was last year. So without further ado, let’s get onto my favourite books of 2017 and some honourable mentions at the end. (more…)

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

Annike: Hey guys! I’ve seen this tag going around for a while in June because we hit the mid year. Even though it is now a little past that point, I thought it would be great to give you guys a look into our year so far and some of the books we’ve liked the most or been surprised by even! Thank you so much to Joana @ Bookneeders for the tag! Make sure you check out her post on this and the rest of her blog because it’s super amazing with some awesome reviews! Without further ado, lets get onto the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag… (more…)

Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner

Annike: Hey guys, sorry it’s been a little while since we were on here, we’re not really sticking to our usual plan. However, I’m here with a review on Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner, a book I read a little while ago and really really loved. Here we go! (more…)

March Read ~ 2017

Annike: Hey guys, we are finally at the end of March and can I say that this has been a massive month! You may or may not have noticed but Zoe and I have been a little bit less frequent at posting this month due to all the exams going on at school. However, these are pretty much all over now and we will be on school holidays for a chunk of next month so hopefully we’ll have some great new content next month! Anyways, here is a look into the month of March and the books we read. (more…)
