Unpopular Opinions Book Tag

Zoe: Welcome back everyone! We have been doing a lot of tags lately as we were tagged by Joana @Bookneeders a few weeks ago so thought we would continue the pattern. Please make sure to check out her blog. She has an amazing blog sharing a love of books so make sure to head over and give her a follow. You can also check out her answers to this tag here. Let’s go!

A Popular Book or series that you didn’t like

FangirlWIP.jpg 511bUaa-oBL.jpg 30653853.jpg

Zoe: I answer the same book all the time because I generally love books which other people like but I didn’t love fangirl which was really popular (sorry annike).

Annike: Probably, ‘When Dimple Met Rishi’, I didn’t like as much as other people or even The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli.

A Popular Book or series that everyone else seems to hate but you love

Zoe: ‘How I Lost You’ by Janet Gurtler had quite drastic views but I wouldn’t say it was hated. It was one of those books were a lot ofpeople found it average but I thought it was amazing, so although it wasn’t hated I would still consider my opinion different to others.

Annike: I actually have no idea, I think I tend to agree with the majority more or maybe it is more that I don’t know many hated books…

A Love Triangle where the main character ended up with the person you did NOT want them to end up with (warn ppl for spoilers) OR an OTP that you don’t like (spoilers)

Zoe: This literally never happens. I generally like couples or the person who prevails in a love triangle. The closest is probably Dorianfrom ‘Throne of Glass’ who didn’t end up with Celaena in the end and although I haven’t read the second, I hear she ends up with Chaol who I don’t particularly like with Celaena thus far.

Annike: *This is a spoiler* but I think the only time I haven’t liked the guy that the MC ended up with was in the ‘Shatter Me’ series when Juliet went for Warner over Adam. I just hated Warner so much and ahh it gets me every time!

A popular book Genre that you hardly reach for

Zoe: Probably Romance. I have read a few romance books but I find them all the same and pretty boring. If you have any romance books you would recommend that are different make sure to tell me in the comments because I would love to read a really good one.

Annike: Umm these days I would say science fiction. I used to love those and now I read very little of them. That or mystery I guess.

A popular or beloved character that you do not like

Zoe: Definitely Maven in the ‘King’s Cage‘ and in all of the ‘Red Queen‘ series by Victoria Aveyard. I really don’t like him. After the end of the first book I can’t get over what he did and really don’t want him to end up with Mare but everyone else seems to:(

Annike: Hmm this is hard but I might have to say Eleanor from ‘Eleanor and Park‘ by Rainbow Rowell. I couldn’t get into this book, just wasn’t for me I guess and Eleanor never came off very likeable to me.

A popular author that you can’t seem to get into

Zoe: John Green. I read the ‘The Fault in our Stars’ but that is about it. I don’t really know why. He seems to have a lot of successful books but I haven’t gotten into them at all and the last book I tried of his was unfortunately a DNF.

Annike: Definitely agree with John Green and maybe also E. Lockhart even though I’ve only read like 2 of her books.

A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing. (examples “lost princess”, corrupt ruler, love triangles, etc.)

Zoe: Literally every love story. Boy meets girl, they they fall in love, one of them has a secret and doesn’t tell the other, they break up, they make up and get back together. It is the main reason I have stopped picking up romance books because I feel like they are all the same.

Annike: Umm yes I’m a bit tired of seeing love triangles in romance fiction because they just annoy me a lot. The girl always goes from having no love interests to 2 in the blink of an eye. Maybe ‘the chosen one’ too because that might be a bit overdone now.

A popular series that you have no interest in reading

Zoe: Probably ‘A Court of Thorns and Roses’ by Sarah J. Maas. I actually love her books but for some reason have just never even thought of picking this book up despite the amazing reviews.

Annike: Probably ‘The Mortal Instruments‘ by Cassandra Clare Not sure this really counts because I read the first one but didn’t like it so don’t plan on picking up any of the others ones any time soon.

The saying goes “The book is always better than the movie”, but what movie or T.V. show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?

The-Great-Gatsby-Movie-Poster.jpg HC.jpg 91TE1R-OzYL.jpg

Zoe: I would have to go with ‘The Great Gatsby’ by F.Scott Fitzgerald. I did like the book but I watched the movie first and loved it. It inspired me to read the book but I felt the movie was more powerful. Ohhh also the 100. I think the TV show is AMAZING and didn’t particularly like the books.

Annike: Definitely The 100 (1000%) but other than that maybe ‘Thirteen Reasons Why’ by Jay Asher only because the TV show was was more powerful and much more detailed when it came to plot and stuff. I do have to disagree with Zoe on The Great Gatsby however because I liked the book more than the movie haha.

  1. I can’t get into John Green either, although considering I haven’t read any of his books it’s more that I don’t want to. None of them sound like books I’d really enjoy and they were so overhyped a few years ago so I’ve just stayed away.

  2. I can’t get into John Green either but I am willing to give him just one more chance. Great post! I’ll love to do this tag over on my blog.
