Don’t get Caught by Kurt Dinan ~ Book Review

Hey guys it’s just Zoe here today and I am doing a review on the book I recently read which was also on my TBR list called Don’t Get Caught by Kurt Dinan.

url10:00 tonight at the water tower. Tell no one. -Chaos Club

When Max receives a mysterious invite from the untraceable, epic prank-pulling Chaos Club, he has to ask: why him? After all, he’s Mr. 2.5 GPA, Mr. No Social Life. He’s Just Max. And his favorite heist movies have taught him this situation calls for Rule #4: Be suspicious. But it’s also his one shot to leave Just Max in the dust…

Yeah, not so much. Max and four fellow students-who also received invites-are standing on the newly defaced water tower when campus security “catches” them. Definitely a setup. And this time, Max has had enough. It’s time for Rule #7: Always get payback. Let the prank war begin.

I found this book on my Goodreads recommended books and thought it looked so original and something that I would really enjoy so I decided to give it a go. The reviews for this book were amazing so I had really big expectations for the book, luckily I was really impressed and had a really fun time reading it.

I haven’t read a book in the perspective of a guy in a while so I really loved the character of Max. I thought the book was so unique and was nothing like I have ever read before. I love pranks and prank wars so it was something which was really special. The plot line was well structured and it progressed well throughout the story. I loved all 5 of the main characters as there was so much variety but was still easy to relate to. The humour was really good and I often found myself laughing throughout the book. The characters all had different personalities. The nobody, the goody goody preacher’s kid, the jock, the class clown and the artistic protestor which I thought was really special as we saw how each of these characters developed throughout the book.

“Who wants to be like everyone else? Sometimes you have to break out and do it your own way.”

I think my favourite character would have to be Adleta. He’s a lacrosse player and not really a jock, but he’s the closest thing to a jock the group has. He is actually a really loyal character and super cool and I think he really developed throughout the story as a very strong yet devoted character to the story. Some issues that I did have with the book was the fact that A couple of times the pranks went over the line and I think that this wouldn’t have been how the story would have played out in real life but I do think it pushed forward the story as we had more of a plot line, however I loved some of the pranks and thought they were really creative and adventurous.

I think that this was a really successful read and the writing was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone into pranks, or young adult contemporary as it is such a fun and action-packed book. Thanks for reading and we will be back with another book soon:) x
